His filmmaking journey began at the Moscow Film School before continuing his studies at the New York Film Academy. He is now pursuing his MFA at Columbia University.
His creative voice is shaped by a deep love for Russian literature and European cinema, infused with the richness of his Middle Eastern roots.
He often explores emotional and physical isolation of families, particularly highlighting the struggles of lonely children and disconnected parents, while delving into questions of identity and belonging.
Nizami’s films and scripts have won multiple awards at various international festivals where he happens to be among the first Azerbaijani filmmakers in competition.
