ABOUT
Raised in Russia, and later educated in Switzerland, he is fluent in four languages which include English, French, Russian, and Azerbaijani.
His filmmaking studies started in Moscow Film School, and continued at New York Film Academy. From there, Nizami has developed a style driven by his love for Russian literature and European films while drawing inspiration from his Middle Eastern roots, which he combines in his psychological thrillers with a focus on misplaced characters.
He often explores emotional and physical isolation of families, particularly highlighting the struggles of lonely children and disconnected parents, while delving into questions of identity and belonging.
Nizami’s films and scripts have won multiple awards at various international festivals where he happens to be among the first Azerbaijani filmmakers in competition.
